I have a set of nickel electric strings all 6 strings, .010 - 046, thats all the info I have on them. which would be best to tune to Gdg ?

On a set of 10's the 3rd string will be probably be a .17 (or close to that) it'll be your high g string, The D string will be the .28 (or close to that, it varies) low G string will be around the .37

What are the best 4 strings for tuning to D Gsharp B E  ? As in your Elmore James type video (just wonderful!)

Hi there Kit

That tuning is actually E G# B E and I use the top 4 strings from a standard set. You'd want a heavier guage though as a .10 on top is a bit too skinny for slide. Look for a set with a .12, even a .13 on top and use the top 4. I'll be doing a slide workshop using this tuning soon (it'll be the third in the series, currently working on #2)
