I have always been fond of guitar, and wanted to learn to play. I could never afford to take lessons and did not have anyone serious about teaching me the skills needed. I have one old friend that was probably most influencial in teaching me what little I know about guitar which amounts to a few cords on a six string, but life interefers and we have not seen each other in almost 40 years. We used to spend entire weekends together just tinkering with the guitar and having a general good time, but I made no real progress.

As a youngster, my mother enjoyed music, but did not play any instruments, and I picked up some of her tastes for music. One instrument she enjoyed very much was the Steel guitar, and I grew to like it as well. The sounds produced seem to tug at my very soul. I had a cousin that introduced me to music by BB King, John Lee Hooker, and of course many others and I was hooked.

Over the years, as I would inquire about lessons and tell the instructor what style I would like to play I have received comments like 'you have to learn all the rest before you can do that' one instructor even told me that 'slide playing' was not really playing the guitar, and he did not teach it.

Recently, a member in woodturning forum I frequent posted a picture of a CBG he had just completed, the only thing he had turned on it was the knob for the volume pot but it was beautiful. I began a search for CBG's on how to build and play them and was blown away by all the info available. I looked at more youtube videos than I can count, and was quite impressed the sounds are exactly what I have been searching for.

The thing is that most of what I see are folks that like the distorted loud crunching sounds, and I know that's not all there is. When I found your videos, with explainations of why these sounds are so cool, I was very curious about your course. It is difficult to find courses that offer the explainations(important to me) that I can understand as well as teach the skills needed to master this instrument. I have read testimonials about several of the available How To Play DVD's produced, but they just didn't seem to fit what I was looking for. The process that you employ, by starting from the very beginning and building on lessons learned makes perfect sense to me. Anything I have ever learned to do well, had to start from the basics and build up from there. Your willingness to provide on-going support is a major plus as well, with your musical background I'm sure you have encountered most any obstacle one might come up against. I am pleased so far with my choice, having looked at the first lesson, and am looking forward to the journey of learning how to PLAY the CBG.

I have the necessary components to build my first CBG, and hope to get started on that later today. I also have a six string that I may use to get started by adjusting the tuning to the GDg tuning, just so I can begin. Thanks for coming up with this lesson plan it seems to be all I had hoped for.

Just curious, the dots on the finger board are placed in line with the note and the slide correct?
